Backpain Blog Follows Federer – Quarter Finals

It’s become ever more prevelant that Roger Federer’s back pain is no longer an issue as he was back in action this morning against Juan Martin Del Potro. However, the matchup didn’t last long as Federer won convincingly in under 2 hours with straight sets of 6-4 6-3 6-2.

Despite Del Potro drawing aces with 5 apiece, and even achieving an astounding top speed serve of 207kmh, Roger Federer emerged the victor and will now face either Rafael Nadal or Tomas Berdych in the semi-finals of the Australian Open 2012.

Throughout the matchup Federer’s forehand drop shot gave him the presence of Derren Brown on the court on the court as he used it to constantly trick and deceive his opponent.

The 30 year old Swiss jugernaut showed no signs of any back pain which took him out of Qatar earlier this month, and appears to be a strong favourite for winning the competition.

Back Pain Blog Follows Federer – Round 3 and 4

After defeating the Croatian Ivo Karlovic on Friday, Roger Federer showed no sign of lower back pain and eased into the quarter finals yesterday with a fourth round win against Bernard Tomic.

Playing in his own country, the 19 year old Australian was definitely the fan’s favourite to win the 4th round clash at the Road Laver Arena yesterday. However, it appeared that Federer had other plans.

The Swiss superstar defeated the young Australian 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 and according to National Post Sports, “beat him at his own game”. With Roger Federer winning 84% on his first serve (compared to Tomic only winning 54%) it became apparent that the seasoned veteran was too much for the teenager to handle.

The match started off reasonably controlled and calculated with Federer describing it “like boxing in the beginning. You don’t want to take too many chances”.

However as it progressed, Federer’s experience and skill began to show as he eased into the quarter finals where he will face Juan Martin Del Potro in his 1000th tour level matc,

Back Pain Blog Follows Federer – Round 2

There seems a to be a little bit of irony writing this blog entry this morning. We began following Roger Federer due to his back pain in Qatar earlier this month. However, it was actually his opponent Andreas Beck who was forced out of the competition with a bad back.

According to Yahoo Sport, the 25 year old from Ravensburg, Germany apparently informed Federer in the locker room prior to the game that he was unable to play due to back pain and had actually been playing through the previous game on a lot of painkillers.

The 3 time Austalian Open champion was due to play in Hisense Arena in the 2nd round, but due to Becks withdrawal, maintains a record of only ever playing at the Rod Laver Arena in the competition.

Federer has been reported saying “I would have loved to play (and I) feel sorry for the fans who were excited to see me on Hisense today. I was ready to go.”

The Swiss superstar will now face either Croatian Ivo Karlovic or Argentinian Carols Berlocq in the 3rd round.

Back Pain Blog Follows Federer – Round 1

As many of our readers are sportsmen or sportswomen with lower back pain, we figured it may be of interest to keep you up to date with another ‘sportsperson with back pain’, Roger Federer’s progress in the Australian Open 2012.

The 30 year old, Swiss world no.3 had to withdraw with back pain from the Qatar Open earlier this month. However, Federer was back in full form yesterday against the Russian Alexander Kudryav at the Rod Laver arena in Melbourne.

According to The Daily Mail, Federer actually admitted he didn’t have much knowledge on his opponent and had to look him up on the internet.

It is perhaps unsurprising then that the Swiss superstar won with straight sets 7-5 6-2 6-2 in order to progress to the next round. The Russian pro Kudryav showed some promise early on as he almost took Federer to a tie-break in the initial set. However, Federer broke at 6-5 and just seemed to gather momentum from that point on.

Hopefully Roger Federer doesn’t get any more back pain in future rounds of the competition and we are able to keep you up to date with his progress.

Celebrity Bad Back(er)

It’s 2012, a time for new beginnings to commence and New Year’s resolutions to be attempted. One of our resolutions is to try and bring more regular back pain updates to this blog and provide you with useful, interesting and sometimes  little bit of strange information.

To kick off the New Year, and with the new UK celebrity Big Brother (hence the name) starting yesterday, I’d like to talk about celebrities with bad backs. It seems in the age of Twitter that a lot of people like to know the ins and outs of celebrites everyday lives, so what isn’t more fitting than looking at some celebs who have back issues?

Paula Abdul from American Idol is reported to have chronic pain as a result of a cheerleading accident.
Dick York who played Darrin Stephens in the 60′s show Betwiched was meant to of had such a bad back that he had to leave the show and be replaced by another actor.
David Tennant pulled out of his second Hamlet show due to a bad back.
Even Hollywood star George Clooney is rumoured to of hurt his back on the set for Syriana, and before a succesful surgery is meant to of said he could not imagine going on in such pain.

These are only a few examples, as I imagine that there are quite a few celebs both local and in Hollywood who have issues. Do you think that these celebs have a responsibility to be the voice of back pain, or any chronic conditions? Or do you think that it doesn’t really matter if they do? Either leave your comments in the box below, or let us know on Twitter @dynaspine #celebbadbacks.

Christmas Back Pain Image 234x300 25% Off Dynaspine This Xmas!

Christmas can be a magical time of the year. Illuminating decorations in your neighbours garden, carol singers at your front door & the first glimpse of snowfall as the year draws to a close. However, this holiday could also be quite strenuous on your back. Here at backpainblog that’s the last thing we want so why not follow a couple of tips to avoid back pain this Christmas:

  • Do your Christmas shopping online – When doing our Christmas shopping it’s always hard to fight the temptation to buy bags and bags of goodies for our family, friends, and even ourselves! However, this could put an added strain on your back. By doing your shopping online you can avoid this unnecessary labour and prevent hurting your lower back. Well, either that or getting someone else to carry your shopping for you!
  • Take your time when putting up decorations – These days it seems everyone is pressed for time, and we are doing everything in a hurry. If you think that this applies to you, then stop for a second and take a breather. By putting up your decorations in a rush you run the risk of injuring yourself (falling off a step ladder when putting the star on the tree for example). Take your time and enjoy the process and it could reduce the chance of accidents happening.
  • Take some time for you – One of the biggest causes of back pain this time of year can be stress. Whether it’s rushing to meet Christmas deadlines at work, or being constantly berated by your children for gift after gift, this festive period can actually be quite stressful. Every now and again take some time to yourself and try and keep stress free.

However, we are aware that some back pain is unavoidable and that’s why Spinal Dynamics are offering you an early Christmas present this month with 25% OFF Dynaspine Back Support. Simply enter XMAS11 when you reach the checkout to receive your discount.
